March 20, 1937 - February 1, 2024

Ross Lorne Stewart passed away at home in White Rock on February 1st, 2024.

He was predeceased by his parents Lorne and Stella, brother Irwin, and sister Edna Sutherland.

He is survived by his greatest love Noreen, wife of 61 years, children Janeen (Phil) and Wendy, grandchildren "Little Ross" and Maria, sister Shirley, and many nieces and nephews.

Ross was born March 20th, 1937, in Swan River, Manitoba. Despite a serious bout of rheumatic fever at 10 days of age, he was active at home, on the farm, and at school. He recently recalled driving his school soccer team to a game by horse and wagon at the age of nine!

The family moved to Cloverdale, BC, in 1946 for better access to education. Ross graduated from Lord Tweedsmuir in Cloverdale in 1955, and went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Education degree from UBC and Masters of Education at Western Washington University.

As an educator at the original Semiahmoo Secondary School, he was a popular shop and PE teacher as well as a respected counsellor and administrator. He coached basketball for many years, including the BC girl's provincial championship team in 1974-75.

After retiring from teaching, Ross became a businessman and insurance agency owner in White Rock.

Ross loved sports and excelled at them for most of his life. Hockey, lacrosse, and baseball, then later softball, curling and golf. He and Noreen curled together and especially enjoyed golfing together. He loved to coach Toronto Blue Jays baseball and Arizona Wildcats basketball from his recliner.

Ross encouraged his girls to pursue their interests and was a great role model. The family enjoyed summer vacations and travelling together; in retirement Ross and Noreen spent many winters in Arizona.

In later years Ross battled heart complications and cancer. Despite his declining physical health, he had a sharp mind and great sense of humour until the end.

Ross was an exceptional gentleman and wonderful friend and mentor.

A private family gathering will be held.
