Roy Paton passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016, in White Rock, B.C. He was surrounded by his family, who cared greatly for him. Born September 30, 1936, in Netherhill, Saskatchewan, Roy lived to be 80 years old. Roy married his high school sweet heart, Joan Smith on October 5, 1956. The family went on to settle in Bellevue where they raised their 3 sons, Dale, Garnet and Darin. Roy was production manager of the Philips Cable Plant. The family moved to British Columbia in1985, when Roy was transferred to the Vancouver Philips plant where he became Plant Manager and the family chose to establish a new home in White Rock. Roy happily took on the role of coach, when his boys showed an interest in both hockey and baseball. The grandchildren will forever treasure their memories of feeding ducks, metal detecting along the beaches, making blackberry jam, going for ice cream and picking through treasures in the “magic drawer”. Roy’s passions included curling and coaching; once retired he flourished in gardening, perusing garage sales, collecting Stanley wood planes and tools, antique coins, and many other curios. Roy made regular donations to the shelters of the White Rock area of blankets and clothing that he found at local garage sales. Roy will be greatly missed by his Tim Horton’s 5 a.m. group, by local antique collectors, his neighbours, but most of all by his family. The family would like to say a special thank you to all of the doctors and nurses who cared for Roy over the past few months. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Association.
