January 3, 1947 - March 16, 2024

Velma passed away, lovingly surrounded by her family, after a 4-year progression of Alzheimer's. She touched the hearts of those who knew her and she leaves behind many beautiful and cherished memories.

Deeply loved and missed by her family: her husband John, her children Terri (Sebastiaan) and Kevin (Katherine), her mother Mary, her sister Fran (Harry), her brother Stanley, and her four young grandchildren: Isadora, Tristan, Delphinia, and Aurelia. She also touched the lives of many dear friends.

Born in Blairmore, Alberta, Velma held the distinction of being the first New Year's baby of that year. Her formative years were spent in Calgary, where she earned her BA in Literature from the University of Calgary. In 1968, one of the first computer match up programs led her to meet her devoted husband, and they embarked on a loving journey that spanned nearly 55 years.

In 1978, they settled in Ocean Park, where Velma dedicated herself to raising their two children. Later, she served loyally as the database manager for the Girl Guides of Canada for 17 years.

Vel was known for her "heart of gold" and having" the patience of an angel". Many people have described her as being the sweetest, kindest, and most thoughtful person they had ever known. She supported her family wholeheartedly in their many adventures and endeavours. Velma also volunteered countless hours for various organizations, charities, and her church, as well as contributing the maximum allowed 100 blood donations.

A funeral Mass will be held on Wed April 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1153 Fir St, White Rock, followed by a coffee and tea reception in the foyer of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2250 150th St, South Surrey.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Society, Canadian Cancer Society, or Canadian Blood Services in Velma's memory are deeply appreciated.
