HENDRY, William Blackwood. May 20, 1928 - March 2, 2014. Born in Loans, Scotland, May 20, 1928 Bill arrived in Canada at the age of 23. Traveling to BC he easily found employment as a carpenter. In Port Alice he met his wife, Diane. Married on August 29, 1957 in Vancouver, they moved to Whalley with their two girls, Janice and Beth.

Working for Dominion Construction, Bill supervised many large building projects not only in Vancouver, but also in Prince George, Smithers, Cranbrook, Powell River, Victoria, Ladysmith and Vernon, where his family lived for six years. He retired to South Surrey after 37 years of dedicated work with Dominion. Though work was his passion, his greatest joy were his grandchildren; Troy, Michelle, Megan and Zack and his great grandchildren; Elijah and Noah. After battling three strokes and two bouts of cancer, he chose to move on and passed away peacefully at Peace Arch Hospital on March 2, 2014. Bill will be sorely missed by his wife, brother and two sisters, daughters, in-laws, partners, and grand and great grandchildren who are comforted by the knowledge that if there is a hammer in heaven, or a stick to be carved, he will find it. Memorial service to be held at Peace Portal Alliance Church Chapel, White Rock at 2:00 pm on April 4, 2014.
