A measure of thanks

I would like to thank all my neighbours who refused a smart meter yesterday (March 10). Thanks, too, to the Corix installer who bypassed all houses with “no smart meter” signs and respected all last-minute requests to leave the meters alone.

I live with an immune condition that renders me especially susceptible to environmental toxins such as electromagnetic pollution.

Following medical advice, my husband and I moved from Vancouver, and my health improved due to the clean air, the relatively low level of ambient electromagnetic radiation and the kindness and understanding of my neighbours in Ocean Park.

I could be called a human “canary in the coal mine,” and smart meters may be one of the biggest health challenges I have faced so far.

Some people want to protect their family’s health or security, some dislike the smart meter’s surveillance capabilities; some just want to avoid spikes in their hydro bill.

Whatever your reason, if you refuse a smart meter, you make your neighbourhood a little bit safer for your family, your neighbours and for the bees and the canaries.
