LETTER: Biofuel facility should produce only organic fertilizers, not RNG

Editor:

As I have just today found out that the “peaceful rally” against this biofuel facility proposal has been held and I missed it, I would like to state an issue that doesn’t seem to be mentioned.

It is the matter of what happens to the “renewable natural gas” after it is produced and distributed. It will be burned.

Every mention of the gases that will waft over the South Surrey area concentrates on the immediate risk, but fails to address the downstream emissions from burning the gas, and that is absolutely the most important matter to be eliminated, if we as a society are the least bit serious about addressing climate change.

Sure, the production of organic fertilizers is a definite bonus, and there is no reason why that cannot – and must be – the only product from this facility.
