Regarding the death of Helen Fathers, first, my heartfelt condolences are sent to her family and friends, of which I’m sure she had many.

The lovely sight of Helen on the front page of the Peace Arch News last week warmly invited me to read about what new and additional positive impact she had now made in our community. However, when I read the article’s opening line I was immediately brought to tears.

Although I didn’t know Helen personally, she was responsible for our most enjoyable visits in the ‘earl-y’ days when she served us at the local restaurant by that same name.

We always requested her section to be guaranteed the finest and most fun service during our visits.

I sang her praises directly to her years later when I saw her at the Farmer’s Market.

I followed her career throughout time and always found her to be compassionate, fair and thoughtful in all she did for our community.

Her death is an immense loss, even to us on the periphery in Surrey.

She was a very good person in our world. Rest in peace, Helen.

You will be missed, but never forgotten. Your legacy lives on.
