LETTER: Violence is the ‘last straw’ for White Rock visitor

Editor,

My wife and I have been visiting White Rock for short-term stays (mostly winters) spending up to six months for decades.

Whether it is a private rental or in a hotel, we have spent thousands of dollars and have enjoyed it.

Sadly, over the last few years, I have really noticed a decline in the quality of life in South Surrey – huge congestion, massive increase in traffic and parking hassles, ongoing building and construction inconveniences, but despite that it still was such a lovely pocket to live.

Over the years, we have met some lovely people and were a big fan of South Surrey-White Rock, promoting it nationally and internationally to people to visit.

Today, that is not the case. The reality of White Rock-South Surrey has hit us hard. We will not be coming back.

The decline in the quality of life price increases is getting so concerning, and now with the violent crime increasing so rapidly, that was the last straw.

We have just, sadly, decided to end our annual visits.

We will cherish the lovely memories of living in White Rock, Ocean Park and South Surrey. We may pop in as we drive by it but will no longer stay.
