Editor:

Property tax should be on the residences, not on the assessed value.

A property in my area pays for policing $827.56. I pay $1,759.35.

I pay double for all other services.

I cannot even get Section 19.8 of the Assessment Act to reduce my tax because my land is larger than five acres, which is about four acres of creek and ravine.

I cannot do anything because Fisheries and Oceans Canada says I cannot touch it.

I also pay for drainage which I do not use but supply for about 1,000 properties north of me.

I cannot even get the homeowner grant because I am over the allowed maximum assessment.

Property services need to be assessed more fairly.

Our property assessments have increased dramatically compared to the cost of Canadian inflation rates.

The City of Surrey must govern more responsibly.
