Re: Surrey councillor defends SOGI stance, Nov. 16.

I am concerned when I hear about a group of people signing a petition demanding the resignation of Laurie Guerra – a Surrey councillor – from the board of Autism BC (Guerra exits Autism BC, Nov. 14).

What disappoints me is that Guerra merely has different views than those of the pro-SOGI group.

Being anti-SOGI doesn’t equate her being discriminating against LGBTQ.

There is no report that she has done anything discriminating to any LGBTQ individual.

Guerra has been involved in Autism BC for many years. If she discriminated against any individual, she would have gotten complaints and been disciplined long ago.

On the other hand, the actions of those parents who demanded her resignation are in fact bullying. They discriminate against people sharing different views than themselves.

It’s ironic. SOGI is about inclusion, diversity and anti-bullying. But now it is the pro-SOGI group that bullies people of mere different opinion.

The gathering that Guerra attended was private. Eavesdropping on someone at a private event and making a public report make me think of the communists where people spy on each other’s private life and report those who don’t comply with the party’s policy to the authority and hence leads to persecution.

We are in Canada where everyone enjoys freedom of belief and freedom of speech.

How can one enjoy such freedom when a private opinion turns into public persecution?

Thank you for a detailed and honest coverage of Guerra’s defence.
