Re: Surrey nixes courses for graduated adults, April 29.

Just as the mayor of Surrey and the premier of the province are trying to figure out what to do about the gang war now being waged in Newton comes news that, effective May 1, Surrey will no longer make high school graduation available to adult immigrants if they have completed a high school education in their country of origin.

In effect, the Surrey School Board and the Clark government have just shut the door to educational opportunity for more than a thousand young people here in Surrey and thousands in the rest of the province.

Just what is the point of denying immigrants a chance to learn English and become fully integrated members of our society? For sure this is no way to solve social problems.
