At the July 24 City of White Rock Public Hearing regarding what most consider an excessively densified project on Vidal Street, Mayor Megan Knight abruptly cut my mic off and said that I had said enough.

I had mentioned that 10 per cent below market rental rates are not affordable housing and that this council has to stop trying to pass them off as affordable housing.

I also mentioned that this council should get proper infrastructure in place such as multi-family solid waste collection by one provider in place, as Surrey has been able to for a decade.

My mic was cut off when I predicted that a faction of this council is trying to use the North Bluff Corridor Study to increase highrise heights to 30-35 storeys and that this six-storey project would seem like child’s play to some. That was when my mic was cut off.

She said she didn’t know what I was talking about.

I was going to state that I predict also that this council would bring back the 11 Pillars of Housing Affordability to amplify mega densification in the single family zones with condos, triplexes and duplexes.

But, alas, it seems she didn’t want to have me let the cat out of the bag.

Democracy, wherefore art thou?
