After receiving an email announcing the long-awaited decision made for Costco to come to South Surrey, I felt the need to respond.
While I welcome a long-overdue Costco, I certainly hope that a new store will come with a gas station. Otherwise, why bother! The lineups at Langley are terrible and the South Surrey-White Rock area generally has the highest prices for gas than other neighbouring communities. We are also close to the U.S. border, a portal for travellers who need gas. I also know that sticking Costco in an area that creates too much congestion will be protested against vehemently.
It needs to be out from the core residential area with a buffer zone to offset detriment to density.
Originally, Costco was going to build around the Grandview-Morgan Crossing area complete with a gas bar.
I bet they wish they had gone ahead at the time. Let’s have more input and communication with Costco, in order to create a successful, useful store that meets community needs, and blends in comfortably to the benefit of all.
