LETTERS: Reflection of our community

Support reflects 'Community of Caring,' writes MLA Gordon Hogg

Editor:

When bad things happen to good people, then good people and good communities come together to support each other.

They say thank you, they hug… they talk and they help each other out.

Our community has shown their appreciation to the first responders, the staff and volunteers who were there to help in our time of need and their caring and support to those affected by the fire (Fire victims, community give thanks, July 1).

My heartfelt thanks and appreciation to The Star of the Sea Parish for hosting the event; to the Ocean Park Whalers and Rob Nelson for the fabulous music; Korki & Friends for ‘clowning around’; the Knights of Columbus for cooking and ground crew; Sources food truck, Save On Foods and Thrifty’s for donating food; the financial contributors who made this event possible; and the Peace Arch News for helping spread the word.

I want to extend my special thanks to Denise Darrell, Yale Shap, Tammie Schellekens, Kelly Ridding and Tiffany Kwong (Sources BC); Dianne Sawicki and Sylvia Yee (City of White Rock); Brian Hovan and Bruce Ewing (Knights of Columbus); Cliff Annable (South Surrey & White Rock Chamber of Commerce) and Verna Logan. Their time, skill and determination made this such a special occasion.

Your participation in and support for our community celebration made it a wonderful success, and a true reflection of the character of our “Community of Caring.”

MLA Gordon Hogg, Surrey-White Rock
