It really is a small world. Yesterday my wife, Sheryl, and I were selling our Surrey shirts at the Cloverdale Rodeo when late in the evening up walked a very big tattooed man who inquired if we had 3X hoodies.
We checked our stock sheet and showed him the one 3X we had which was a “Better Safe Than Surrey” design. The customer tried it on then asked to look in the mirror.
As he looked at the design featuring six bullet holes – one for each victim of the Surrey Six massacre – a strange look came over his face. He told us he couldn’t buy the hoodie and when asked why told us that he just realized it was the fifth anniversary of when he was shot at the Legacy Showroom in Cloverdale.
We agreed that especially with the date that it was bad karma and asked him about the shooting.
He admitted he was the target of the hit that killed an innocent bystander in the bathroom.
I went online this morning to check the date and confirmed that May 16, 2009 was the date that innocent bystander 34-year-old Chris Whitmee was gunned down with another man being shot and injured at this now-closed strip bar (‘Best dad’ gunned down in Cloverdale), May 20, 2009.
Knowing this, it might be a good time to bring public attention to one of Surrey’s most notorious unsolved murders by giving it some public attention. The Surrey RCMP previously asked for the public’s help on the one-year anniversary of the crime.
Time has a way of loosening lips and maybe someone can help ID the shooter who ran off into the night five years ago after this violent incident that is believed to be drug or gang related.
