So many letters to the editor are complaints about endless community problems and opinions. For a change, I

thought it would be nice to say something positive and to thank the Peace Arch News and its writers for their contribution to the success of so many different community organizations.

In particular I want to thank PAN for Alex Browne’s recent write-up on the forthcoming season of White Rock Concerts.

Anyone who has attended or participated in White Rock Concerts in the past will know that these events promise not only to be outstanding musical occasions, but also are remarkable community gatherings of like-minded residents of White Rock and South Surrey.

The very fact that we can enjoy international celebrity concert artists right here in White Rock for a pittance of the cost that a similar concert and a journey to downtown Vancouver would entail should make us marvel at how White Rock Concerts has survived since 1956, and is now emerging from the pandemic with a revitalized membership.

For full disclosure, I am the artistic director emeritus of the organization, and I am probably one of the few people around who attended the opening concert 65 years ago.

I have been at every opening event since then, and will be there again on Friday, Sept. 30 along with 650 White Rock-South Surrey music lovers. It is all happening at White Rock Baptist Church, where Jasper Wood, violin, and Daniel Bolshoi, guitar, will be joined by the John Avison Chamber Orchestra for an unforgettable musical evening.

Perhaps I’ll have the pleasure of seeing you there.

George Zukerman, South Surrey
