Re: White Rock will not provide warming centre, Surrey opens space at north end of city, Dec. 30

I was quite taken aback reading the comments of the Mayor of White Rock in the article regarding White Rock’s inability to set up warming shelters for the second year in a row.

Instead of addressing the issue, he reverted to some sort of reverse logic response on “What constitutes an Emergency.”

I would say freezing outside at –14 C all day would constitute an emergency even for this council.

The City of White Rock seems to have dropped the ball again as they did last year with empty promises and grand statements being made on March 8, 2021.

Can anyone explain what was the point in the mayor setting up his “At-Risk and Priority Population Task Force?”

Surrey has acted responsibly in setting up their warming shelters. It is obvious that the City of White Rock just can’t get their act together.

There seems to be some sort of disconnect between them and the people in need.

To make matters worse they have proffered three very expensive, after-the-fact solutions. This is due to their lack of planning which has created a crisis on someone else’s part.

Talking the Talk is one thing but Walking the Talk is really what the residents are looking for.
