LETTERS: Thankful for protection of ‘angels’

I love White Rock! I want to tell you about two White Rock angels that have come into my life in the last few months.

On Wednesday, June 10, I was walking to Save-On with my grocery buggy to pick up my groceries when I began to feel unwell.

Lucky for me, my first angel was watching me from behind. She saw me slowly melt to the pavement. Before I hit the ground she grabbed me and laid me down carefully. I remember nothing of this.

An ambulance was called and she, an RN, stayed with me and cared for me until they arrived. I only hope that if this angel sees me again she will tap me on the shoulder so I can thank her properly. I also want to truly thank the staff at the Save-On pick-up desk for their wonderful support. I am home now and beginning to feel better.

My second angel appeared the first weekend of the of the COVID-19 outbreak. I was out of milk and wanted to sneak in and out of the grocery store quickly. I put the milk in my buggy and was about to head to the till, when the wheel fell off my buggy! No sooner had “damn” slipped unintentionally from my lips than a young man appeared and stated, “I can fix that for you!”

It turned out to be a bigger job than it first appeared, so he had to lie right on the cold, bare floor in the middle of the aisle to put the wheel back on for me.

As I thanked him, I told him that what goes around comes around – all the men in my family have been helping others for years and their efforts have now been repaid. I think there was a tear in each of our eyes.

I can’t thank both of my angels enough. It is so nice to know that during this difficult time of social distancing and worry about COVID that people haven’t lost their hearts and still take time for an “older” citizen.
