I would be remiss if I did not write this letter today after seeing the fabulous fire works display at the pier on Saturday, Aug. 5, for the White Rock Sea Festival.

These fireworks were compliments of Thrifty Foods and I would like to not only thank them but let them know I will be shopping more at their Surrey Morgan Crossing store in the future for their community effort in this regard.

My point today is why did it take so long for this good business to obtain a permit to open their new store in the Miramar Village, where we in White Rock could shop and benefit? This has taken years now and I was of the understanding that White Rock needs businesses to help with the limited tax base we have. Here is a great community business who not only contributes to our public sea festival but could also pay a business tax to city hall.

I voted for Megan Knight and her team as I was lead to believe that they would be more progressive in business building here in White Rock, which we need so badly, and yet, Thriftys, as well as several other businesses I have heard of, cannot seem to get permits to open their businesses in a timely manner.

Wouldn’t you think this would be a major priority for this council to rectify? Could we not just even hire a part-time staff and incentivize, and/or pay them really well for a short-term just to get these permits approved?

Private business would not nor could not ever allow this procrastination to continue. They would be out of business. Why does it seem to be OK for governments to do so?

Megan, I am disappointed.
