Someone should pay for delay

Re: Completion questions for White Rock condo buyers, PAN, March 21

I find this kind of builder/contractor neglect absolutely ridiculous here in B.C.

A delivery date two years later than promised – that’s unacceptable.

But I can’t help but wonder who is really to blame here.

Is it permitting via city hall or does not a small bit of this fall on us?

My wife and I purchased a condo in a 28-floor building in Puerto Vallarta Mexico and we were concerned about delivery time.

Occupancy was for two years after Nov 2021, with a possible six-month extension written into the contract.

Here we are and the building is fully erected and everything is going according to plan, and we will most likely be in (the condo) in May of this year.

But the key point here is that after the June 1 possession date if not ready, the contractor has written into the contract that we will be paid daily if not ready.

And I can’t help but wonder if we should be holding our contractors’ feet to the fire in situations like these.

I’m certain the Ishikawa family has endured a lot of out-of-pocket expenses since.

Just a thought.
