Semiahmoo midget coach Todd Simmons is retiring after a dozen seasons behind the bench.

With the season drawing to a close, Semiahmoo Minor Hockey Association teams have a handful of accomplishments to celebrate – not to mention new banners to hang at local rinks.

Five Semiahmoo squads – atom C5, bantam C1 and C3, midget C4 and juvenile C2 teams – captured playoff titles recently, while a handful of other teams won regular-season and other banners.

At the ‘rep’ level, Semi’s midget development team won a regular-season banner, while also capturing first-place at the Arizona Cactus Cup tournament earlier in the season; while the midget A3 team advanced through the playoffs all the way to the Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association Final 4.

For the midget C4 team, the playoff title brought to an end the coaching career of Todd Simmons, who team manager Sylvie Doerksen said “will retire his whistle” after 12 years behind the bench of Semiahmoo teams.

Winning the banner was “a very proud moment for the team,” Doerksen wrote in an email to Peace Arch News.

Other wins include: Semiahmoo’s bantam A2 team capturing the President’s Series banner; the peewee A1 team winning a President’s Series title as well as the Gil Martin Memorial Tournament in Langley; the peewee A3 and atom A2 teams qualifying for the PCAHA Final 4; the peewee A4s winning a Kamloops tournament; and the atom A1 and A3 Ravens winning their respective Fraser Valley championships.

In ‘C’ division play, five teams won regular-season titles – atom C4, C5 and C6 teams, as well as the peewee and juvenile C1 squads.
