“Early bird” registration has started for this year’s Run Surrey Run, set to go Sunday, Sept. 8.

The fourth annual walk/run navigates the streets of Surrey City Centre starting at Holland Park, on 5K and 10K routes.

First-tier registration is done on runsurreyrun.com, ending May 1.

The event emphasizes fun, physical activity and community, and is open to novice and experienced walkers and runners of all ages and levels of endurance. A virtual race will also be held from Sept. 4 to 8 where participants can run or walk their own route at their convenience.

“We doubled the number of participants last year, and hope to double that again this year, aiming for 800 people joining us,” event founder/director Gurjinder Bhurji said in a news release.

“With the encouragement and support of our Community Partner RBC, the City of Surrey and other generous sponsors and community volunteers, our vision remains to create Surrey’s signature event to promote health and active living for the benefit of all and showcase our world-class city.”

Bhurji, who started the event after a serious health scare, envisions a Surrey version of Vancouver’s Sun Run as the event grows.

On Sept. 8 the run will start at 8:30 a.m and follow a “fast and scenic course” downtown on a 5K loop, travelled twice by the 10K runners.
