The White Rock Renegades ’95 are 3-1 through the first four games of U18 Women’s Fastpitch Canadian Championships in Charlottetown, P.E.I.

With their current record, the Renegades – who are the defending national U18 champs, having won the tournament last year as 17-year-olds – sit in second place in the 22-team tournament’s Red Pool, behind only the 4-0 Smitty’s Terminators from Manitoba.

White Rock’s most recent victory came Wednesday morning, when the team defeated the Regina Kaos 5-2.

Renegades’ Marley Nicole Parker went the distance in the pitcher’s circle in the victory, striking out four batters while scattering six hits.

Taylor Lundrigan and Cheyanne Head each had a double and two runs-batted-in.

The Renegades had another game late Wednesday, against the Nova Scotia Stealers, but it was played after Peace Arch News’ press deadline.

White Rock had a busy day Tuesday, with two games. They opened with a 9-0 victory over the Calgary Xtreme, scoring all nine runs in the final three innings of play.

Brooke Anderson was the winning pitcher for White Rock – striking out seven in six innings of work – while the offensive outburst was a group effort.

Lundrigan, playing first base, had another strong game, going 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while right-fielder Katie Vosper and catcher Lexie Brenneis each had two RBI. As of Wednesday morning, the team’s only blemish came in the second game Tuesday – a 6-4 extra-innings loss to the Smitty’s Terminators.

The game was tied 2-2 until the Terminators plated four runs in the top of the ninth frame, and White Rock replied with just two in the bottom of the inning.

Neither team was sharp in the field, with the ‘Gades making five errors, and Smitty’s four.

Sara Groenewegen – a member of Canada’s national senior women’s team – went the whole nine innings for White Rock, striking out 10.

On Monday, the tournament’s opening day, White Rock won its first game – first beating Ajax (Ontario).

Playoff rounds begin Friday, and the tournament wraps up Sunday evening.
