Surrey gymnasts medal in Saskatoon

Alanna Jones and Treyson Cerrato were medalists at the Western Canada Gymnastics Championships in Saskatoon.

Two members of the Surrey Gymnastics Society (SGS) competed at the Western Canadian Championships in Saskatoon last week, and both came home with medals.

South Surrey resident Treyson Cerrato won an all around bronze medal in the Elite 4 men’s category. The 12 year-old won a gold medal on the floor and the vault, and added a silver medal on the high bar. He was fourth on both rings and parallel bars.

Guildford resident Alanna Jones, 20, was ninth all around in the Provincial 5 Open category, and won a gold medal on the vault.

Another Surrey resident, Taylor Oakley, tied for eighth overall in the National Open group. The member of the Flicka club in North Vancouver was fifth on vault and sixth on beam.

SGS also sent gymnasts to the Zone 3 (Fraser Valley) Championships, hosted by Club Aviva in Coquitlam.

Three members of the Surrey club finished among the top three in the Provincial 2 Tyro category for girls both in 2002. Sarah Tobin of South Surrey had the high score on bars and beam and went on to win the all around gold medal. Tobin was also fourth on floor and fifth on vault.

Eva Woodward of North Delta was third all around, after winning a gold medal on floor, a silver on bars and placing fourth on vault. Nicole Czerniakowski of Surrey was fifth all around, with a silver medal on vault, fourth on beam, fifth on floor and sixth on bars.

Cassandra Principe won the all around silver medal in the Provincial 2 Tyro category for girls born in 2003. Principe won gold on both vault and floor, added a bronze on bars and placed fourth on beam. Teammate Makiah Anderson was fifth all around with a bronze medal on floor. She was also fifth on bars and beam and sixth on vault.

Maria Bashko of North Delta won the all around gold medal in the Provincial 2 Argo category for gymnasts born in 2004. She won gold on bars and floor, and silver on vault and beam. Teammate Chenay Wong was fifth all around with a silver medal on bars and sixth place scores on beam and floor.

Another all around gold medal by an SGS gymnast came in the Provincial 1 Tyro group, where 12 year-old Monaeya Silveira placed first overall after winning gold on vault, bars and floor.

In the Provincial 1 Argo group for 2004 birth dates, Kelsey Snow of North Delta won the all around silver medal after winning gold on beam, silver on floor and placing fifth on bars. Teammate Uliana Grichkovskaia was fifth all around with a fourth place finish on floor and a sixth on vault. In the same category, MacKenzie Long placed seventh all around after placing fifth on vault and bars.

In the 2005 Provincial 1 Argo category, Anna Polunocheva earned an all around silver medal after placing second on bars and winning bronze medals on vault and beam. Alice Bashko was the all around bronze medalist with a silver medal on vault, a bronze on bars and a fifth place score on beam. Chloe Dickson won gold on the floor, bronze on beam and was fifth on vault to place fifth all around.

Avery Harrison won a gold medal on vault and Talya Jalbert placed fourth on bars in the 2006 Provincial 1 Argo category.
