Surrey wrestlers shine at provincial championships at Vancouver’s PNE Forum

Tamanawis Wildcats scored the silver medal among boys teams at the BC School Sports 2024 Wrestling Championships, ending a four-year reign as provincial banner winners.

The Newton school team narrowly lost to Abbotsford’s W.J. Mouat Secondary by three points (73-76) at the two-day competition, held Feb. 23-24 at the PNE Forum in Vancouver.

In total, Surrey student-athletes won 19 medals across the various weight classes and divisions.

Standout performances for Tamanawis include gold for Mustafa Nasir in the Male 63kg category, along with Karanjot Dhillon (48kg), Justin Lalli (84kg) and Jastej Mundi (90kg), each with silver in their weight classes.

Also in the boys division, Queen Elizabeth Royals landed fifth overall led by Prithvi Mann (74kg, silver), Sayed Frogh (57kg, bronze) and Lucas Moski (130kg, bronze), while Princess Abedu earned bronze in the Female 40kg category.

Among girls teams, Semiahmoo Thunderbirds placed fifth with 25 points. Sixteen of the team’s points were scored by Taranpreet Dhillon, who scored a technical fall and a gold medal in the Female 51kg category. Guildford Park girls were seventh with 22 points.

Other gold-medal winners from Surrey schools were Gaurav Bahi (Earl Marriott, Male 45kg) and Harjot Singh (Princess Margaret, Male 78kg).
