Just over 1,500 runners braved the rain Sunday to run in the second-annual Surrey International World Music Marathon, where a husbnad and wife team from Coquitlam set the pace.
Tatsuya Hatachi of Coquitlam won the marathon. His time of 2:47.18 was 12 seconds better than runner-up David Papineau of Vancouver.
Rika Hatachi, wife of the race winner, placed third overall and was the top female in the race, crossing the line just 19-hundredths of a second behind Papineau.
There were 213 participants in the marathon.
The half-marathon had 1,007 participants, with David Jackson of Abbotsford placing first in 1:14.14. Surrey's Drew Nicholson placed second in 1:14.55.
Gillian Gook of Vancouver topped the field of 255 participants in the 5km run with a time of 18:14.
