Spring is in the air, the sun has made its first strong appearance of the year, and blooms are budding everywhere.

That also means it’s time to think about outdoor recreation, of which, there are plenty of opportunities on the Semiahmoo Peninsula – including lawn bowling.

The White Rock Lawn Bowling Club is hosting three open houses in the lead-up to its official opening day, to allow interested newcomers to the community – or the game – to get to know the sport.

The club, which encourages people of all ages to come and play, will provide bowls – the biased ball used in lawn bowling – and instruction at each open house.

Those interested in trying a few bowls should wear clean, flat-soled shoes for play. Located at 1079 Dolphin Street, the club also features ocean views in a quiet neighbourhood.

The open houses will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. three Sundays in a row: March 24, April 14 and April 21.

Opening day, according to the the club’s website, is April 28.
