White Rock Business Improvement Association’s new executive director has resigned.

Alana Souter will work her final shift for the BIA Friday, two months after being hired for the position.

“I would probably reach out to the board and ask them questions because I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes. But, it was totally me, I decided that I needed to take a different career path. Nothing to do with the board or members, I really enjoyed working for the BIA,” Souter said Monday. “I’m going to take on a position that’s more marketing-oriented and not so admin-based.”

BIA president Ernie Klassen told Peace Arch News: “We wish her the best, it’s too bad it didn’t work out.”

“We are hiring an interim person so that we don’t feel the need to rush into hiring, filling the position. We have talked to several people and we hope to have someone in the position very soon,” Klassen said Monday.

Tuesday, Klassen announced he hired former executive director Russ Davies until they fill the position.

During the last hiring process, the BIA had received more than 50 applications. The organization was without an executive director for three months before Souter took the position.

Former executive director, Douglas Smith, stepped down from the role at the end of August, after two years.

Shortly after his resignation, a BIA newsletter referred questions to the BIA office. At the time, Klassen declined to comment, acknowledging only that there had been “personal issues” between Smith and the board.
