Re: Cast light on majority view, Sept. 19 letters.

When I read Bud Larson’s letter to the editor, I was flabbergasted.

I am a resident of White Rock, and I assure you that Larson does not speak for me in his opposition to the rainbow crosswalk at Five Corners.

I think the crosswalk shows that the people here are inclusive.

Larson claims he was told that the colourful crosswalk represents support for the physically handicapped, mentally disabled and those who are “socially unacceptable” in White Rock. I don’t know what the phrase “socially unacceptable” even means unless Larson is referring to the LGBTQ community. Seriously?

According to Larson’s views, I suppose, I am unchristian and immoral.

On the other hand, homophobia doesn’t make one Christian or moral. It just makes one a bigot.

Letter-writer Bud Larsen must have felt the need to claim he speaks for the “majority” of the people of White Rock in order to have the confidence to express his objection to the rainbow crosswalk and pier lighting.

He neither speaks for the majority nor the ‘Christian and moral’ people who live in this community.

I am not gay, physically or mentally handicapped but, unlike this gentleman, I am not only socially acceptable but also socially accepting.

Who is he to judge any of his fellow citizens?

I am proud to belong to a community that acknowledges we are all one family, each member worthy of love and acceptance.

The letter is disturbing, slanting on hateful.

Majority view? Representing Christian and moral people?

This sentiment does not represent me and I would imagine many, many Christians and ‘moral’ people.

So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God he created them…” – Genesis 1:27.

“Them.” All mankind.

Even – lucky for you – the “socially unacceptable.”
